In 1963 GMH introduced the 'S4', a variant of the EH-179. The car had unmistakable potential as a modified touring car.
Norm Beechey, with backing from the Neptune Oil Company, raced the 'S4' in the single-round, 1964 Australian Touring
Car Championship held at Lakeside Raceway. Lakeside opened in 1961 and was regarded as one of the most exciting circuits in the country.
Beechey started the 'S4' from the third row, and was able to work his way to the lead. Racing hard, Ian Geoghegan was able to pass
Beechey, with seven laps remaining. After a hard fought race, Beechey finished in 2nd position a mere 1.5 seconds behind Geoghegan
