The 1997 Bathurst Primus 1000 Classic had the 05 HRT car of Peter Brock and Mark Skaife starting on Pole Position.
The plan was for Brock to start and finish the race, pleasing the fans who had come to see if he could win his 10th
Bathurst crown. Brock started well and led a good race before handing to Skaife on lap 32.

On lap 53 disaster struck when leading the Bathurst race by eight seconds, 05's engine expired, setting the wiring harness in the engine
bay ablaze. Skaife just made it back to the pits, but their race was over. Mark Skaife and Peter Brock had driven well, the car had
performed superbly, but the fairytale finish to a great race was not meant to be.
