Holden VS Commodore
#97 Bargwanna/Noske – Holden Young Lions
1997 Primus 1000 Classic Bathurst
Jason Bargwanna turned up to Bathurst in 1997 as a rookie and blew the old guard away on Friday, setting provisional pole for the Primus 1000 Classic.
He then backed it up on Saturday, slotting the #97 Holden Young Lions VS Commodore into fifth position in his first top ten shootout.
But that’s when the wheels started to fall off the HYL campaign.
On Sunday morning, in the traditional 20 minute warm up session Bargwanna made the slightest of errors and paid the ultimate price.
Turning-in fractionally early to one of the most difficult corners on the circuit – Forrest’s Elbow – the car clipped the inside wall and ricocheted
to the outside wall at almost unabated speed, writing off the car in an instant.
