Russell Ingall and Paul Morris proved they had the pace and the equipment to match it with the best teams in pit lane, putting themselves in a position to challenge for victory in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, before two mechanical issues cruelly curtailed their day.
Ingall started strongly after putting the #39 SCAR Commodore in eighth placing on the grid, with he and Morris constantly running in the top three and matching the pace of the eventual race winners Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.
But mechanical dramas struck, first an accelerator cable restricted Morris to just 80 per cent throttle in his second stint, then a power steering issue, combined with a sudden tendency for the car to lock its wheels, forced Ingall to pit for repairs on lap 137.
Ingall later rejoined the race and eventually finished in 18th place.
