Toll Holden Racing Team stars Garth Tander and Will Davison won the 2009 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, in one of the most thrilling
1000km races from start to finish in recent memory.
The action filled and sometimes controversial race went down to the wire, but Tander led a Holden charge with the VE Commodores
taking a clean sweep of the podium and HRT taking both 2009 enduros, after also winning the L & H 500 at Phillip Island the previous month.
Tander and Davison had worked remarkably well all weekend and the Saturday pole position was the start of greater things to come. With Sunday’s Great Race, the HRT #2 car had good speed, reliability and with a well organised strategy and some timely safety car periods, Tander took the lead with a few laps remaining.
After 161 laps, 6 hours and 20 minutes and 2 seconds, Garth Tander triumphed and crossed the finish line first, for his second Bathurst 1000 win and Will Davison’s first.
